Mothlight Kindle
Author: SunnySoldier
Aspen has been living part of her days in a treehouse she cannot remember building. She is searching for the fairies that keep messing with her memory. To keep herself intact, she has built a system: red pen for facts, green for wants, and blue for answers. She wants her answers written in blue. Instead, something reaches up through the floor with her Mother’s hand. Her Mother always kept her nails red. The next time Aspen wakes, she is wearing a dead girl's body: moth-wings, scarred hands, a village that lives inside a dying tree. She smells of nothing, and the village notices, but nobody asks why, because asking belongs to a ceremony seven days out. Whatever hollowed this girl out is coming back for her on that day. It smells like yellow wax and wet bark. Her own facts are starting to fade. Her street. Her treehouse. Everything but the parts she repeats like a nail: Aspen Ellis, here. Tardy for class. She has seven days to claim a Name that smells like her own before the village hands her one that finishes the job. Seven to learn what Lyra lost. Seven to find the blue pen that followed her inside the god-tree. Aspen has never seen the fairies she blames for her missing time. But in the god-tree, the invisible starts looking familiar: four wings, ritual magic, purple blood, and a village that already has a place for her. Her answers may not have come in blue, but this world comes in many colors. Her new blood is just the pen that came with the body.
