Humanity reached for the stars and found they were not alone.  They formed a great alliance known as the Sapient Congressional Union with the others that they found in that great dark expanse.  Now nearly 800 years later the Union is in turmoil.  War on a scale that none could have dreamed has consumed the Union as the rebellious frontier worlds have declared their independence violently.  These rebels have attacked many of the Union's once peaceful worlds, it is on one of these embattled spheres that we set our gaze. Donner is a Union soldier, stalwart and able, he seeks only to complete the mission that he resents being assigned.  But when everything goes wrong, and his mission becomes a nightmare how will he respond.  Drelloc is a Union Intelligence agent assigned with a vitally important task, but can her minimal field training keep her alive when the world wants to burn down around her?  Thrust into an impossible situation these two must cling together for survival, but proximity often fosters curiosity.  And in such perilous circumstances what hope does love have to blossom?  But it is often said that love is a battlefield, and it is on the battlefield that they are forced to cooperate for the sake of the mission and the fate of the planet's future.
